So, I did a good deed and I helped 2 friends out - the Hondo is being sold for $35 with a set up and new strings to a friend, and etr102 another friend of mine from this forum just gave me $25 for the Ibanez in as-is condition. The Squier only cost me $15 to start with, and I only put a $6.50 pack of strings on and about 3-4 hours of work. I got this guitar today for basically free - I traded a 1987 Squier Bullet 1 HSS MIK model - and the guy gave me $67, the Hondo, a 2002 Ibanez RG120 in need of a bridge saddle adjustment screw and tremolo arm, and a CTS 250k volume pot and US strat trem arm. I can't seem to figure out what year or era this is from, nor how much it might be worth. The only things I see are a serial number and inspection sticker on the back. I just got this today in a trade, this older Hondo Strat copy in Sunburst finish.no country of origin.here are some pics. Set-neck models often had no serial number, but the ones that did had it stamped into the back of the headstock.I know this is not the 'other S-type guitar forum' section, but I thought posting it here would get me more views/input. Some had no serial number but "Made in Japan" was engraved. On bolt-neck models, they were often engraved on the neck plate with a gold and black "Made in Japan" sticker (some Tokai-built models had a white "Made in Japan" sticker with black text), but not always. Serial numbers for these guitars follow their respective manufacturers' codes (which both happen to use the first digit to represent the last digit of the year, making them easy to date).
After the Professional Series was discontinued, the Revival Series, Deluxe Series Mark II and Mastercaster Series took its place as Hondo's top-of-the-line series. It has a very Matsumoku type serial number 1040312 (1981) on the neck plate. Most featured the Hondo II " Script" logo, but in early 1981,they began switching to the new " Sunrise" logo, and a gold plated truss rod cover. They were built from late 1979 through 1981, and sold from 1980-1983. The purpose of the line was to improve perception of the Hondo brand name. The Professional Series (also known as Pro Series) was introduced in 1980 after Samick's engineers took a trip to Japan to learn from their manufacturing processes and teamed up with Tokai and Matsumoku to create a line of Japanese-made models. Serial numbers for these guitars follow their respective manufacturers codes (which both happen to use the first digit to represent the last digit of the year.
